Axilis founded and runs JS School — an annual bootcamp that provides programmers a deep dive into modern JavaScript. Each year, hundreds of engineers apply for about a dozen spots.

Late every Thursday afternoon we gather in the company cafe for our weekly, internal “chit chat.” Each week a different Axilis team member makes an in-depth presentation on the topic — frequently engineering oriented — of their choice.

As our JavaScript projects grew in scope and complexity, we decided to add the additional organization and peace of mind that a type checking technology like Typescript offers. Moreover we wanted to use Typescript in a more comprehensive, “fullstack” manner than is typical. So we’ve built our own solution and open sourced it.

Slack Quiet Translator

This combination of Slack bot and slash commands enable an unobtrusive way to translate conversations. Rather the usual approach of a bot that translates messages and outputs to everyone, this self-hosted integration translates and stores messages so when needed one can get translation in the same channel privately.
